I recently pulled all 4 cylinders on a O-320A2B for Piston Pin Plug metal.

The jugs were turned in for new.

A few days later I got a call from "Larry the Cylinder Guy" @

Penn Yan Aero Service.

He informed me that the Hydraulic Lifter for #3 Intake was collapsed.

Note the Case was about 120 miles away.

This was apparent to him by comparing Intake Valves from the Cores.

This aircraft has been owned by the same person for 14 years & I've

done as many Annuals.

At no time was any symptoms noted.

Larry suggested using the Pushrod Cup & a Pushrod to

see which Lifters had any sponginess.

The bad one was SOLID.

With the Intake Valve opening later, not as much, &

closing earlier there must be some effect on Power.

Has anyone had issues with collapsed Lifters?

Symptoms?

How to check with cylinders on?

Anyone check on a routine basis?

Glad Larry let me know when it was easy to replace.
