I have developed a hellacious crack on the left exhaust manifold, just where the pipe splits between the turbo and the waste gate. Upon removing the stack, I noticed that two of the three slip joints were frozen - and I mean FROZEN.

I read somewhere that the manufacturer recommends disassembling this unit, bead-blasting, crocus-clothing the slip joints, and reassembling every two years. Anybody know about this? I am convinced that the frozen slip joints created the stresses that led to the failure; this pipe runs red-hot.

Recommendations on Lycoming site are to use the 1800° Permatex copper lube on the slip joints; I found a 2400° nickel version. Permatex 77124.

Thoughts?
