Well bad news has come my way. My Saratoga SP TIO-540-S1AD motor has 921 hours SMOH and 6400 hours total time. For a few months I have been using more oil and finally found the issue, which is a crack in engine case at the #4 cylinder. It’s not certain, but the thought is the crack may be repairable if it is not in the oil journal according to Divco. So I am looking at options and gathering info to determine my path forward. Of consideration is the fact that I have a low time turbo and scavenge pump with about 75 hours each, a fuel pump with 108 hours, an alternator with 262 hours, fine wire plugs with 350 hours, gami injectors, and brand new ignition harness and dual mag. With that said I and soliciting advice. Does anyone have experience with a repaired crankcase on a turbocharged motor? Is 6400 hours on the crank case too much to consider for a repair? Is an overhaul the way to go with a new or overhauled crank case? Do I fix what I have, maybe rework the cylinders and try and make TBO? Do I just go ahead and get a factory rebuilt? My other consideration is to sell what I have and get a different plane, but there is nothing out there for the price that can carry the load and have the Saratoga speed. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and opinions. Should have some cost figures next week. Pics attached.
