I like to fly in winter (or a winter-like fall, as we have this year), but I find I'm a lot pickier. If I'm going to spend an extra ~45 minutes brushing off snow, covering and uncovering the plane, I want it to be worth my while.
Today, the ceiling's low enough that I'd have to stick around the airport area, and the GFA calls for moderate turbulence up to 3,000 ft due to a 50 kt low-level jet to the west. It was my last chance to fly before my annual starts tomorrow, but all that work for nothing more than a few bumpy touch-and-go landings just didn't seem worthwhile.
After the annual in January, I'm looking forward to real winter high-pressure systems with cold temperatures and brilliantly clear blue skies (it's easy to bundle up against the cold), then back to IFR in the spring. I guess that's it for my 2018 flying year, though.
