Well, it appears that the issue of rounded edge washers for spar attach bolts, which came to light with the bolt hole inspection AD, has spawned a new Piper Service Bulletin.

The SB finally answers the question of why the rounded edges on the washer are required. Turns out it is to provide minimum worst-case separation between the washers and surrounding structure.
