I have posted regarding several issues with my Cherokee 140 in the last few months.... Vibration issues and related work completed. Don did a great job on rebuilding the mags, and a new harness install that seamed to help out the vibration issues, but did not eliminate it.... Did a Dynamic Balance and it was the ticket. went from .18 to .03... NOW that vibration is no longer an issue.
Replaced the 6 year old battery because it was cranking slower, and the tester said it had a bad cell. Concord 35-AXC was replaced with new... cranks a lot better... except that started bendix not engaging every time, so, Don came again to the rescue with a new Sky-Tec 149-NL inline starter, that is still sitting in the back seat of my truck as the plane is starting fine.
I went flying last week and low and behold the DG is swinging around, and the AI is a little droopy... dang, vacuum is at 4.1...... Ok, time to change the filters and check the vacuum pump, maybe turn up the regulator a bit..... except that the logs show 705 hours on that vacuum pump....
So Friday, I will be installing a new starter, a new vacuum pump, new vacuum filters, and wash off the engine real good.... along with the oil on the belly of the beast.
I only fly DAY VFR, so is the vacuum gauges really needed??.. could I not just cover them, state they are non-op and still fly??.. I also need to get a BFR, so want to have the plane working properly, and next month a new 3rd class medical. Maintenance on aircraft never ends!... But Flying is FUN!!...
