I just found out that ribbon farms (long, narrow fields laid out along rivers, stream, and lakes) aren't just a Quebec thing in North America — apparently other places colonised by the French (e.g. Illinois) also still have some. How often do people fly over these, and where?

Flying in Canada, I can often tell when I've crossed the Ontario/Quebec border, because the fields change from long, thin strips to squares and (wider) rectangles.
