a very long story short.
I have had too much oil on the belly and I found out that nr1 cylinder on my 0-540-A1D5 lycoming had severe pitting on the cylinder walls. I replaced with a brand new cylinder kit from Lycoming.Within the first few hours the oil control ring disintegrated and I lost about 3 quarts of oil in an hour of flight. Lycoming replaced the broken oil control ring under warranty.
50 hours later, I still have oil on the belly and the pictures I took today from the same cylinder does not look promising.
Lots of oil on the walls, valves, piston crown. I am very reluctant to have the nr1 pulled the 3rd time. Has anyone had prematurely failing oil control rings in their lycoming?
