Repairing Fuel Selector

I was interested in knowing how low the fuel tanks have to be in order to disassemble the fuel selector valve in an Archer II, I am going to replace the o-ring on the shaft, it gets tight at times. Hard to say how much higher the valve is than the tanks and once opened up, if the fuel starts flowing, well, it won't be a good day- Thanks to anyone who gas done this task before
