The engine RPM on my PA-28R-201 Arrow III wanders up and down a bit. With a new McCauley constant-speed prop (installed Jan 2021) I'd expect it to maintain a, well, more constant speed. How much variation is normal?

This sort of thing happens all the time, regardless of weather conditions. This sample happens to be in cruise at 7,000 MSL with the autopilot flying, in stable weather conditions.

A brief review of the logbooks didn't turn up a prop governor overhaul since the last engine major in 1989 (and maybe not then).

Is it time to replace the prop governor with an overhauled unit?
