Got the plane ready for winter temps, mostly based on threads here. Three main things,
  1. Got the rear seat heat sorted. I had about 2 1/2 inches of carpet in the duct that was limiting airflow on the passenger side and totally blocking the pilot side rear heat. Used a hot-knife to cut the carpet and seal the edges (hopefully). Lots of open space now for air to flow.
  2. Fabricated a winterization plate. I was very surprised how low my oil temps were on the last flight and realized I needed the plate. Never got one with the plane. The one I fabricated ended up being the wrong one for the plane, but it will work for now. I have a 73 Challenger, and as best as I can tell, it has a rectangular plate. I used the one for the later Archer that has the angled bottom with a locking tab on the bottom. I have plenty of sheet aluminum left to make a proper one, but it would be great to come up with an easier way to install/remove it. When your hands are cold, fooling around with #6 screws and nylocs are no fun and they are amazingly easy to drop
  3. Put in multi-grade oil for the winter.
Lousy weather in ATL today, so good chance to be productive when flying was not an option.
