PA28-140 and density altitudes

Hi All. I have a 1966 Cherokee 140 with Powerflow exhaust. It has about 100hrs since major overhaul, which included the Lycon upgrade to 160hp. I've recently moved from the east coast to the Phoenix area. It's not only hot here in the summer, but all the fun airports are at high elevation (5K+). I'm very aware of density altitude and have been experimenting a bit. My highest DA takeoff and landing so far has been about 6,800'. I was a couple hundred pounds under gross. While noticeably longer and slower, takeoff and climb were still respectable. My question is - what's the best way to predict high DA performance, short of incremental test flights? The POH charts go as high as 7,000' then there's a notation that the curve can't be extrapolated beyond that. I suppose I could just limit to 7,000' and play it safe. But with my modifications, I don't believe my airplane performs at book figures - especially takeoff and climb.

For you other 140, 160, and 180 owners, what kind of experience do you have with high DAs and performance??
