While cruising at FL 360 yesterday over SC, We heard a Piper in distress over 121.5. Best we could make out, he had an engine failure and his windshield was covered in oil. The frequency became busy, folks trying to assist. Hoping and praying for a successful landing, we had no news on the outcome. On our return leg, about 3 hours later, I called Charleston App to see if they had any info. Actually talked to the controller who worked the Piper. The pilot landed in a field w/ no injuries on Edisto Island with some landing gear damage. Great job on his part! This could have had a horrific outcome.
