I guess im 13-14 years late to the party but this story is posted on avweb and an official Canadian government site and a few other places and it just doesn't add up. Not saying its outside the realm of possibility but the lack of names and an NTSB report leave me thinking it was a hoax. I wouldn't even think the lack of an NTSB report would make it untrue except that it was supposedly a usfs heli and I'd think they would have reported it.
The short story is, bolt went missing on heli, heli started to ascend uncontrollably, passenger took a leatherman and crawled out on the skids and held it in place so they could land.
