ACCESS COVER INSTALLATION KIT FOR THE LOWER FORWARD WING SKIN
New SSL508 " This Service Spares Letter (SSL) announces an access cover kit for the lower wing skin on both sides of the aircraft, in the area forward of the main wing spar just inboard from wing station 49.25. Improved access to this area is particularly helpful for inspecting the forward side of the main wing spar. "
Unfortunately this SSL does not give a kit number for the installation kit. Early models may or may not have the access panels forward of the wing spar in the wing leading edge skin panels. The purpose of the panels is to allow direct viewing of the wing spar ro assist in compliance with AD2020-24-05. I have a FAA Form 337 in the woks awaiting a field approval for a locally fabricated cover plate and inner ring doubler to be installed in my airplane. The inner doubler has a smaller OD and has sheetmetal nutplates and screws as opposed to machine screws in Piper Kit 765-106 used behind the wing spar. The access panel forward of the spar sits atop the skin and is not a flush patch, this can be seen in later models and especially on the Piper Arrow I copied.
