I have been part of this thread for quite sometime. I have a 1966 PA-28-140, N7524R which is located in Savannah, GA. However, let me introduce you my new project...I have to call it a project an will tell you in a minute. This is my 1969 PA-28-140, N95111. I bought it about 2 weeks ago in KLEE. At first, I thought it would be a great addition to my fleet. Not much to see on top of it, other than the usual small corrosion and dull paint been sit on the sun for a long time. So I decided to fly it over to my IA over Kissimmee airport to conduct an annual inspection. As for what you can see on the pictures, we found a troll of things and about 85 write ups so far. I was hoping to install Dynon Avionics, however during a close inspection of the firewall and engine oil leak, that dream may come to pass. Apparently, this corrosion (and a crack) on the firewall is appears very common on these aircraft. The engine was going to have a install of the RAM STC (piston change only), but a closer look showed us leaks over the oil sump, 2 cylinders, front crankshaft seal and some parts of the halves. We removed the engine and disassembled it in order to do a complete overhaul. The only thing that I hope is that after the end of this journey, I can relax and fly this baby over.
