The old mechanical tach in our PA32-300 died over the weekend. We already have a JPI 830 engine monitor that has a digital tach display. The mechanical tach uses a cable. The JPI uses a sensor to measure RPM. Can I eliminate the mechanical tach (and cable) and just use the digital info on the JPI? Or do I need to repair or replace the mechanical tach (or install a redundant digital tach)?
