Looking for advise regarding Port Hawkesbury (Cape Breton Island)

Hoping that things open up by mid-summer. Planning a trip to Maine and am thinking of an overnight diversion to Cape Breton Island. I always wanted to see the Bras d'or lakes. It appears that Port Hawkesbury and Sydney are the main (only?) public airports on the island. This would be my first flight out of the US.

Also, Any recommended stops between the Maritimes and eastern PA to break up the flight would be appreciated.
