My Arrow is in the Avionics Shop. I just had a New Audio Panel (Garmin 345) and New Transponder (Garmin 345 ADS-B - In/Out) and am replacing my Garmin 430 with a Garmin 530 (waiting on the 530 - coming out of another plane). To make room for the 530 in the Center Stack, I was going to have that "Teddy Roosevelt Era" King KX 170B Radio moved to the Radio Stack on the Right/Copilot Side. The Avionics Shop said that the King KX 170B is too deep to fit into the Right Stack because it hits the Defroster Duct and won't go deep enough. I am thinking about just removing the KX 170B altogether and fly with only the Nav Radio in the 530. At a later date I may get a nice Digital Nav/Radio (More Shallow) and place it in the Right Stack for duplicity. I am going to buy a portable radio to listen to in the Hangar as well as carry in the plane. My question is... is it Legal to fly with just ONE Radio (the one in my Garmin 530), VFR & IFR? Currently, I am a VFR only Pilot now, but am going to work on my IFR later.
