I was asked to check out a 1967 Piper Cherokee PA28-140 flap handle that seemed to have too much sideways movement. Upon removing the plastic cover over the flap handle bracket the reason for the movement was readily apparent. The front two corners of the flap bracket were broken off and the rear two were merely cracked. The bracket was being held in place by the center two bolts!! The bracket mounting flange is beneath the carpet at the base of the flap handle.
A relatively cheap fix as far as the owner was concerned a new flap handle bracket cost less than $200 plus a thirty minute install. The downside was the two day wait for the part to arrive.
