I recently started talking to my local airport about the possibility of building a hangar. I also talked to a local pilot that also wants to build a hangar. He was telling me that dirt work at the airport would cost 30-50k. The dirt work requited would be to remove about 1cu yard of dirt for the square footage of the hangar, that I would have to pay around 10k for an FAA engineer to inspect/approve/sign off on the hangar design and that I would also have to have a soil analysis which could also result in more dirt work. So, I'd be looking at 120k for a 60k hangar. This doesn't sound quite right to me. What has been your experience? Does this sound right? As for the dirt work, one place where I could build a hangar is visibly higher and I probably would need to remove some dirt but 30-50k??? The airport isn't really willing to foot the bill for anything at all. No road to the hangar (if needed), no apron, no electric or sewer unless I agree to pay some of the costs. It just all sounds a bit much to me.
