What's wrong with keeping the A-10, and maybe modernizing it with new electronics? We're still flying our GA aircraft of the same vintage or older.

And can acquiring a whole new series of aircraft be cheaper than modernizing an older one? If the rationale is to save $$ to pay for F-35's, do the numbers support that?
