The Shepherd (Fredrick Forsythe) is a short story that recounts the tale of a young RAF fighter pilot looking to get home for Christmas in 1957, from the continent. A definite aviation bent, highly detailed and seemingly accurate, involving loss of electrics, night time IMC over the North Sea, and with a fog bank rolling in. How about minimum fuel too!

And an interesting ending.

The youtube video, about 30 minutes, an old recording of the story read out. Delightful, if you haven't seen/heard it before.
