Hi everyone, the Garmin Team is excited to share additional updates for the GI 275 EIS, Garmin Pilot v10.5, TXi v3.22, GPS series navigators, and more AirVenture promotions. These updates add to the Smart Glide update provided here: https://www.piperforum.com/threads/garmin-airventure-2021-updates-part-1-–-smart-glide.22757/. The team is really excited to discuss and demo these at AirVenture for those planning to attend.

GI 275 EIS Updates
In June, we made some updates that improve the GPSS switching experience, approved the option for the GFC 500 to be installed with the GI 275 as a standby to the original G500, and added control of a GTX 345/GTX 345R transponder. Beechtalker Chris Koppel made this awesome video demonstrating the improved GPSS access here:

This latest update focuses on the GI 275 EIS to optimize the available display space, display more information to the pilot on a single page and more easily navigate between pages. The gauges and graphs provide better visual representation and help the pilot more easily understand and quickly interpret the status of the engine.

The main EIS page adds a comprehensive CHT/EGT bar graph display for each cylinder as well as a new style bar graph display for fuel gauges. Percent engine horsepower is added to the top of the page. To help improve legibility, font sizes are increased. A new normalization mode helps monitor trends of CHT, EGT and TIT from a stabilized cruise flight condition. Once the engine indications have stabilized in cruise flight, the current temperature values can be set to a zero baseline and each indication displays the differences between that zero value. This provides you a handy reference to help more easily spot trends and potential irregularities that may arise on your flight. A new lean mode supports leaning using TIT gauge as a reference for turbo-normalized engines. New intuitive shortcuts built into this page and others, help speed navigation between pages. Touching either the EGT/CHT or fuel gauges on the main EIS page, navigate to those respective dedicated pages. From any page, touching the always viewable RPM at the top navigates back to the main EIS page.

New flight summary pages offer a quick understanding of maximum RPM, temperatures and aircraft timers.

An updated AUX page allows the pilot to select from several data field options to display the information they prefer to see during the flight.

We expect this update to be FAA approved and become available in early August. Once we receive FAA approval, we will submit for EASA validation. Earlier this year we lowered the price of our EIS packages, a 4 cylinder, single-engine aircraft package with engine sensors is $4,595. In addition, we’re currently offering a rebate of $250 on GI 275 EIS packages good through, August 1st. More details here: Garmin GI 275 EIS Rebate | Promotions

Available through August 13th, we’re offering comprehensive packages, for aircraft under 6,000 pounds, that include both a GI 275 AI and a GI 275 HSI starting at $7,995. More details here: Garmin Dual GI 275 Kit Bundle | Promotions.

Garmin Pilot
Over the last few releases, Garmin Pilot has made NOTAMs easier to understand and interpret and this release continues with these updates.

Runway and airport closures are graphically depicted on the airport and runways of the SafeTaxi diagrams on both the dynamic moving map page and dedicated SafeTaxi diagram page.

  • Red runways with a yellow X at each end indicate a closed runway.
  • Orange runways with a yellow clock at each end indicate a closed runway with additional considerations such as the date/time of closure. You’ll want to check the NOTAM for more specifics.
  • Yellow runways indicate an upcoming closure.

Additional awareness of NOTAM airport and runway closures have been built-in throughout Garmin Pilot and include the airports page, dedicated SafeTaxi page, radial menu on the moving map page, the warnings tab of the flight planning page, and the procedure selector.

For those operating in Europe, v10.5 adds new ICAO airspace classification colors on the dynamic map. The airspace colors are in alignment with ICAO standards and popular in country charts, such as DFS or IGN. ICAO Airspace colors are automatically enabled for users with a Garmin Pilot Europe Standard license.

The ability to select the TAF or MOS to display graphically on the moving map page. A new time slider allows the pilot to adjust the time to view the color-coded conditions at the airports in that region.

Annotations embedded natively within a PDF document are viewable in the Garmin Pilot Documents. Undo and Redo options have been added to the Scratch Pad and Documents annotation.

The newest release of Garmin Pilot on iOS mobile devices, version 10.5, is available immediately.

For those that are not using Garmin Pilot today, I encourage you to give it a try with a 30-day free trial upon download from the Apple App store.

For Android users, the team is working hard to bring similar NOTAM features to you in the Fall timeframe.

TXi Flight Display series
Garmin recently announced v3.22 software that adds engine compatibility for twin turbine PT6A aircraft, including the King Air 90 series, Cessna 425 and Piper PA-31T Cheyenne I and II aircraft. These include aircraft with Blackhawk engines. Other updates for piston aircraft include range markings that automatically change depending on conditions for twins and support for RPM tach for aircraft with the Electroair electronic ignition system. The update offers the ability to sync the fuel sensed from the fuel gauges to the fuel calculator. More integration with the GTN Xi series is available, with the ability to tune both the COM and NAV radios from the TXi flight display. For aircraft with a GFC 500/600 autopilot or Cirrus-equipped DFC 90, the vertical speed IAS and VS modes now display a solid reference cue when active and a hollow cue when inactive. This version is now certified and available to the Garmin dealer network.

GPS series navigators
There has been a lot of interest in two-way crossfill of flight plans and waypoints between the GPS series of navigators and the original GTN series and GTN Xi series. The team continues to work this and expects to have it available in early 2022.
