I have the Aspen Max installed and have been waiting on the certification of the Uavionix AV-30-C as a backup since my vacuum AI is failing. Unfortunately, the AV-30 is still delayed and may be a couple of months at the earliest getting one to me. I have a son that is almost ready for his IFR checkride and don't want to waste money on replacing a vacuum instrument for short term. Is anybody using a G5 as their "backup" AI with an Aspen, and can the altitude and speed tapes be turned off (leaving basic attitude only) since I already have them on the Aspen? Seems like it would be information overload and a bit troublesome to set a third barometric altimeter setting. I have a G5 available to install this Monday and will not sign my son off for a checkride until he gets some actual IMC time.
