In my ‘68 235C, I’ve started to notice a faint smell of avgas when I open the door. In looking around, there are no telltale puddles on the hangar floor nor are there any blue dye stains anywhere on the fuselage. of course, this situation gets my attention, so I removed the rear seat to get a good look at the fuel selector valve. It had it’s seals replaced at the last annual. No signs of leakage there. Next place to look is the electric fuel pump (which is enclosed in a sheet metal box behind the wing spar). I think I’ll leave that to my mechanic to look at.
Has anyone else run into this situation? And if so, what did it turn out to be? I’m guessing that it only takes a hint of any fuel in a confined space to smell like a lot. If the issue isn’t in the electric fuel pump area, that pretty much leaves the fuel line from the electric pump to the engine. I wonder how much “fun” replacing that will be?
any Ideas welcome!
thanks!
