I am flying to Habersham County airport (KAJR) tomorrow for a long weekend in Helen, GA. Looks like the weather is going to be fantastic in the SE this weekend.

I was thinking about taking half a day while there to fly up to Gatlinburg, TN. That flight (KAJR to KGKT) will take me across the Smokey Mountain NP and over the highest peak at 6,683 feet. I can climb to 8,500 no problem and cross. There is a big MOA (Snowbird) with a floor of 11k over the park. I don't see any issue there for me.

But, I've never done this. Is there anything unusual about flying over the national park? I don't see any issues with that flight path and the required altitudes, well within my airplane's ability.

I will talk to flight service, of course, just sort of planning right now. Thanks.

Edit: I could add HINDE to my route and stay west of the highest peaks. Might be safer and almost as pretty.
