Hello Everyone,
I am a student pilot; very close to doing my first solo, but have started looking for a family plane (6 seater) . I have a younger family of 2 kids (7 & 11) and my wife.

I have an opportunity to buy a hangered 1960’s Piper 6-300 for about $25k; it’s not flown in last 9 years, painted 12 years ago.

I am a very hands on DIY type person; so debating on venturing on this project journey.

Besides overhauling the engine, I started looking at replacing the engine completely. I could not find any STC’s where people have upgraded to a modern FADEC engine. All I could find was an electronic ignition STC which replaces one of the Magnetos. I was also going to replace the panel with all glass and the upholstery etc.

So probably put in another $100k besides the cost of the plane.
My other alternative is to build a TSI Sling or a Vans RV-10 as to the way I like it.

Please put in your frank thoughts & advice for a newbie pilot.
