Last week when I tried to start the engine it rotated less than one turn and then I got nothing but a "click". Put the battery on charge and went to lunch. Came back to find the battery fully charged. Turned the key and again heard "click". This time with no rotation.

Our mechanic confirmed the voltage was OK. I sent the starter back to Sky Tec. They said the entire starter was torn up, even including the mount. The man said this is what happens when the engine kicks back. We were completely unaware of any kickback.

So my question is; what makes the engine kick back? How do I know it won't happen again? I do know that the key contact seems to be worn because sometimes the starter engages briefly and then the key has to be turned again. Could that be part of our problem?
