Read this today in the Cardinal Flyers Online (CFO) digest.
Thought it might be of interest to those who have the Bendix dual mag. All below is at least second hand information.

"Paul,

Thank you for your email. I apologize for not responding sooner.

Your timing with your email could not have been better. We were in the
middle of meetings with the FAA to finalize our software validation plan
for a new package we are preparing to roll out. This new package will
allow us to have two electronic ignition systems installed on certified
aircraft. This program has directly impacted our plans for a replacement
for the Bendix Dual Magneto.

At Oshkosh last year, we decided to change our strategy for replacing
the Bendix six-cylinder dual magneto and go with an all electronic
ignition solution. The changes to our software that drives our
electronic ignition will allow us to do just that. There will be an
added requirement of some kind of back-up power for the electrical
system. We are looking at battery back-up systems that might be available.

We have decided to go with the same strategy for the four- cylinder
systems as well. We will be putting together a dual electronic ignition
system to replace the four-cylinder Bendix dual magneto. We feel that
the certification pathway will be easier and quicker since all of the
components that are necessary already exist and already have been
approved under our existing STCs. It's a matter of combining the parts
into one package. I also think this will lead to a lower end-user price
in the end.

For conventional aircraft (aircraft with two individual magnetos), we
will continue to offer a single magneto replacement and have available
the option of installing two electronic ignition systems.

Our hope is to have at least the four-cylinder replacement kit available
by the end of the year, if not sooner. I'll likely have more to say at
Sun 'n Fun and certainly at Oshkosh this year. Please stop by our booth
so we can visit. And certainly, let me know if you have any questions in
the meantime.

Thanks again for the email... Mike
