Do you use flaps for a normal takeoff?

Just wondering, I rode with a PA28 pilot that used flaps for a normal takeoff, folks on the red board are suggesting 10 degrees. I just roll out 65MPH - TUG - then it flies away hands off at 85MPH. If im heavy, its hot and the field is short, I go to full on short field operations, the 10 degrees seems like a "kind of" short field takeoff that just adds a step or two to your workload for no good reason.
