Though I live and fly out of Western NY, I was raised in the northern Detroit suburbs and make frequent flights into KPTK when I need to visit home. I have cruised thousands of feet over Detroit several times en route to points west, but am interested in making a flight along the skyline sometime while passing through the area. From the sectional, I see that one option is simply staying over the river and below the Bravo at 3,000 or less.

Over the years, I have seen references to "the cage" that sounded like it was a sightseeing route around Detroit managed by DTW Approach, but I have never found any details about it. Can anyone here (1) verify that it is an actual thing and (2) share details about the route and how it works (or a pointer to where that info exists)?
