Following the (reluctant) decision by the FAA in early May to keep the 149 contract towers open through September, the end of the fiscal year, it is clear that this battle is not over. Like a spoiled child that hasn't gotten its way, the FAA and the DOT have both petulantly said, in effect, "Wait until October. We'll show you then."
I know there are divided opinions about having towers at certain general aviation airports, but here's my perspective, based on personal experience, as recently published in the Kansas City Star. If you're concerned about keeping your own contract tower open, the time to act is now, not Septebmer.
