I have a Cherokee 235 that I recently purchased. The issue is the mixture control. On the ground, it seems to run very rich- to the point of fouling plugs if I don’t lean it back. (Sea level) However, the exhaust appears normal. In flight, when I lean it, the mixture has to be pulled about 3/4 of the way before I get a rise in EGT. Then, the range for setting it is very narrow. On shutdown, as I slowly lean the mixture back, I don’t get the usual momentary rise in RPM that you get just before shutdown.

I’ve checked that it has the correct carburetor, and the linkage is correct and rigged to go from stop to stop through the control’s range of operation. There’s no sign of fuel stains or leakage around the carburetor, so I’m a bit stymied.

Anyone else ever have this issue?
