I fly a fair amount of IFR and night hours in my '71 Arrow. In my last flight home (at night - all lights were on), I noticed that the voltage alarm on my JPI-830 was showing 11.8v, as opposed to my typical 13.2. I have a second (old) volt meter in the plane that read the same. The alternator seemed to be working; I turned on pitot heat and the ammeter needle moved up.

After a couple minutes the voltage jumped back to normal; then later returned to 11.8. Jumped back and forth several times.

The battery is a three year old Gill (sealed). Doesn't seem like a big enough voltage spread to be one cell in the battery dropping out. Voltage regulator maybe?

Any thoughts as to what could be going on? Haven't torn into her yet; looking for suggestions to where I should begin.

Thanks for any advice,
Pete
