I arrived to the airport on Monday to a flat battery, for the first time in (I think) over 10 years. The old car battery charger I thought was at the back of my storage box wasn't there, and who knows if it would have worked anyway after all those years, so I just pulled in a favour from the shop and they charged my battery for me this time.

tl;dr it's time for a new battery charger (14v electrical system, regular/non-sealed battery). Reading Mike Busch's article on airplane batteries, I see it's not recommended to charge them at more than 3 amp, and that you want variable voltage as they get near the full charge. Rather than spending hundreds on a special aviation charger from Spruce, these two inexpensive ones from Canadian Tire both seem to fit the bill (multiply by 0.75 to get USD prices). Suggestions? Warnings?

Thanks for any help.
