We have a Comanche owner with an Electroair system on his Lycoming 540, that sheared all the teeth off the timing housing drive gear, prompting an emergency landing, quoted here:
"Electroair evaluated the unit and told me that the gear became deformed during the manufacturing process, when it was heated in order to fit it onto the axle post. The heat applied was apparently excessive. That process, they said, has since been adjusted. The unit I had was purchased in April 2019, but I am not sure when it was manufactured."
It would be a good idea to remove the cover from the pickup unit and inspect the gear teeth for evidence of cracking. This would be more likely on six cylinder engines.
