Any Ham Operators using APRS to Track Flights?

Just curious as to how many of you may be using APRS to track your flights. Website http://airprs.com/#/tab/dashboard would provide a good way to let family and friends track your flights while avoiding subscription fees. What hardware works best? How hard is it to configure? I understand that APRS also lets you send messages; anyone using that feature?
