Last friday three guys took off from my home base and departed this world in a Cirrus 22. Blue sky day, light wind, and somehow they spun in from several thousand feet AGL. Chute wasn't deployed apparently. It is understood that the pilot had the plane for sale and presumeably was demonstrating it to prospective buyers. Only witness heard something that caught his attention and saw it falling for a thousand or more feet in a near vertical spinning dive into the ground. What the heck is it with these planes? Am I the only one who finds that they seem to show up in the fatal crashes more often than their number would seem to warrant? The following day I was going on a local club sortie to visit a local airport where they were having an open house and a couple of fellow pilots hitched a ride with me. One of them was between planes having sold his Cessna 182RG and not taking delivery of his brand new Cirrus 22 till next week or so. We didn't discuss the crash and he didn't bring up the subject but I figure must be wondering about it.
