I tore out a wall doing a home remodel and there was a newspaper from 1968 in there. Amongst the articles describing the new trend of putting carpet in a home. I looked at the classifieds. I was surprised to see 1. quite a few airplanes for sale and the price of them at the time. Now adjusting for inflation, there were some screaming deals in there. a 1968 Cessna 150 with 250 TT for around 4,000 or so and an 1949 Super Cub for 2500. Now i would expect the population around here to have been at best guess 1/10th of what it is today, yet there were way more GA airplanes for sale then than there are 42 years later? I don't understand the decline? What happened? Was 1968 the heyday of GA? I know I couldn't afford a new LSA plane today. Why couldn't someone realistically reproduce cubs for around 30K? Are the lawyers involved that much?
