Nice pics, good time again this year. I especially like the photo of the SnF24 sign. Really nice Comanche 250 parked behind it!

Just a normal cold front squall line. Lasted about 45 minutes and dropped a lot rain. 15 -20 knots of wind. Nothing terrible. The weather that follows a cold front results in beautiful wether for quite awhile afterwards.

River Ranch Resort Airpark - 2RR

I was there a few years back too, and it’s fine. It’s plenty long too. Enjoy the Ranch. It’s a fun place to go!

    GAMI G100UL

That’s very interesting that the float valve would freeze up. It had to be extremely cold, as there is a lot of fuel moving through that valve, especially at take off. I hope you were able to put her down without damage. It’s also very interesting that in a previous post that you said you would...

I agree. Oshkosh has gotten way too congested. It’s impossible to catch a tram to get anywhere. The last 2 years I walked 60 miles each week. Bigger is not necessarily better. Plus it doesn’t hurt that SnF is in my back yard. Not that I mind flying to OSH.

I’ll be there for the entire week. I received an invitation to park my Comanche in the “Echo of Champions “, an area for previous award winners to celebrate the 50th anniversary. It’s quite an honor!

It’s a pita. You’ll see. Not just a form to fill out.

    Twin Comanche PA-30

My wife has made many (50+) of the canvas spar covers for the Comanche, (including mine) and last year we spent a lot of time trying to perfect the twin nose canvas. We had 4 donor covers to use as patterns, but all of them were in such poor condition we couldn’t a good pattern. So the parts we...

    Wing tip lenses

I can do this if somebody volunteers a set of lens. They don’t have to be perfect, just all the pieces there so a mold can be made from them.

    Paint your plane DIY?

I painted my Warrior a few years after I bought her. My airport neighbors were snidely make fun of me for doing so. I heard the “ya, I gotta see this”, and other comments like that. When I finished that project, they were amazed, and I I ended up painting many parts of their planes. I should’ve...

    Dupont Imron

Finishmasters in Clearwater has who you need, but I don’t know if they’ll ship due to hazardous materials. I’ve used them for many years. I only use Imron. (Use the marine catalyst if you’re doing an overall paint spray; the gloss is much higher).

Reduce Manifold Pressure and RPM for climb?

Different animals. For one thing, the enriched circuit (in a carb engine). Or the fact that you manually adjust the mixture. The big thing tho is that it is air cooled. It’s human nature to let off the gas in a car when temps rise. Not so in an airplane. More air is needed to cool it. Put the...

    Engine Management Lycoming O-540

I reduce rpm to 24 at about 1000’, then slowly reduce MP to 24 as I climb to cruise altitude. I then decide what % power I want to run based on time available and winds. Last flight to south Florida was at 21/23 going south against the winds. I was in no rush. Coming home I was at 23/23, with a...

    Sealing structure holes

I’ll look forward to your photos. There aren’t any fabric covers originally installed in that location. I do, however, have a nice drawing for some fabricated aluminum covers that are installed inside of the gear well, where the gear conduits (push-pull cables) enter the fuselage. These totally...

    Sealing structure holes

On Comanches, there is a canvas cover that completely covers the area under the rear seat to the bottom of the fuselage. Its purpose is to keep drafts from coming in from the wing roots. It was made from a green canvas, of 1950-60 technology. The replacements (which my wife makes) are made from...

    Engine spinning backwards on shutdown

Well, that won’t work then! I didn’t notice that you did specify IO. But maybe this will help someone else.

    Engine spinning backwards on shutdown

Your carburetor bowl may be loose and/or the gasket is leaking air. This is covered on a M/S service bulletin. It’s has happened to me twice on a previous Warrior over the years. There are locking bolt tabs for 4 bolts that secure the bowl. Bend them away and check tightness of them. Better...

That’s funny you say this: my AP/IA is a pastor too! Needless to say, all of his customers trust him!

    Comanche Cabin Door Lock

I took my lock to a local locksmith. $30 later I had 4 keys. Doesn’t your mag switch key fit it? Good luck getting the lock off the door. It’s next to impossible to access it on the Comanche.
