Thanks to all who gave suggestions. It seems we might have it fixed. Unfortunately it took an annual from hell and tearing out a bunch of stuff to get it working. More on that in another post. It seems the cause was electrical. We changed out the switch, the wires and the gear indicator... -

I had to land it with only two greens yesterday. :eek: The right main light would not come on no matter what I tried. I brought it down and kept it in ground effect nose-high, then bumped the mains and let it bounce a few times while keeping the nose up. Not exactly the safest maneuver I've... -

Great observation. The theory is that if I have an extra with an LED bulb in it (which won't dim) then I can tell if it's actually working but just dim. It's impossible to tell in sunlight. Unfortunately it is the worst only after a long flight. So taking it up at twilight hours probably won't...- Rick G

That I don't know. I'll check this during annual. This is going to require me to participate in the annual. My A&P generally does a good job, but if has to get out and look there is no way he can figure this out alone. -

The right comes on slightly slower than the other two lights. But only it's a second or two. Sometimes in flight the right main won't come on (don't know if it's just time or not coming on at all) for up to 2 minutes. -

PA-32R Starting Issue; Lycoming IO-540
I would not use that starter on a strong IO-540. I don't think the starter is strong enough. The starter has to work pretty hard on these big engines and burns out faster than other models. I had to replace one when I had an IO-360 that had high compression. Also I had an issue with a...- Rick G

Landing gear indicator intermittent - driving me nuts
Update: See attached video. You can see the light comes on slowly. At first it comes on dim, then full brightness. This was on the ground with the engine off. Battery was on the low side - maybe 12.2V. Temperature ~45F. Any ideas? Thanks -

@sanjiv thanks for the good info. I ran up the RPMs on the servos and let them run for about 2 minutes. Then after stopping the voltage to start them was much lower. I'm at about 2V now. I didn't try cleaning the brushes as you mentioned because I don't know what I'm doing. Any additional... -

What does "on the brush area mean"? Did you remove the motor? from the assembly? Then take off the motor cover? I have a spare so I would try it on the spare first. -

I suspect this is what will happen with me too, at some point. For now it seems to be stable. If I had a roll problem I would be doing exactly as you did. My roll and head are rock solid. I don't have any left/right deviation on heading mode. In nav mode it follows usually within 5 degrees... -

Update: So far I swapped my AI out for a used one, and I cleaned all of the connectors. To my great surprise, I now have a working altitude hold and full auto trim. 😯😁 Used AI $375. Box of parts from another Lance $350. 10 hours of my time, and 2 hours of time for my mechanic to sign...
