    No landing gear deployment

The brushes are on the top of the motor. When you tapped on the top, the spring loaded brushes moved enough to make contact, so the motor began to run. Brushes wear out. As they wear they create dust and can bind up the movement of the brushes. Replace the brushes and clean up the...

    No landing gear deployment

Yes, always start with the simple and cheap solutions first. After putting on jacks, first thing to check is to see if there is power at the motor when selected. If not, work back through the solenoid and switch. If there is power at the motor then the high wear item on the gear is the...

What is the black box aft of the gear power pack?

I believe the Lances all have the battery bay under the nose baggage bay, not in the back. At least in my Lance it is up front.

    Training Insurance Dilemma

As a CFI and a 1/3 owner in an LLC, the insurance company wanted no part of me doing dual only in a Lance.

    Power pack leaking

I would check for loose fittings and or possible cracked lines near the pump then. Of course it could of been overfilled or spilled in that vicinity too. If you have to overhaul the powerpack, when I was researching that, Aerospace Turbine rotables was the top pick. Price, availability and...

Tow Bar Modification for a Ball Hitch

If you wanted to just have a ring on the towbar, you could put a pintle type hitch on the golf cart. Or you can buy the ball hitch piece and weld/bolt it on the end of the towbar. I think I got mine at Harbor Freight. You absolutely don't want the towbar popping off of the ball and your plane...

Facts NOT in evidence, it was the presenters supposition based on a European airline that did something similar.

    Mid-Air at North Las Vegas

A little more complicated than that. Real time with an ADS-B out aircraft, with an ADS-B in aircraft that has 1090 in ADS-B is the only real time. The 978 and radar are rebroadcast via ground station. Radar has a little lag, if nothing more than the time for the sweep of the antenna plus the...

    Third Class Medical

Things like this happen all of the time, you are not alone You most likely will get your medical, and hopefully not as a special issuance I was explicitly told when I was doing my special issuance for a FIRST class that the FAA works on First Class applicants first, then second class since they...

Oil Still Clean 20 Hours After Oil Change?

Our Lance's oil will stay clean looking up until around 20 hours, but by 30 it is starting to look dirty. Previous to all of the cylinders being rebuilt, the oil would turn dark in about 2 hours, we had several broken rings that allowed exhaust gases to blow by and mix with the oil. Fixed...

    No more 170 pound passengers

martini said: Airbus can calculate weight when it’s airborne. My guess is that it calculates it based on speed, aoa, trust, wind speed etc. I really suspect it is doing nothing more than using the inputted starting weight at the gate and subtracting fuel burn to display current weight. But...

    No more 170 pound passengers

Mandatory Op Specs change effective Jun 12, 2021 for approval of W&B programs. While compliance via AC-120-27F is not mandatory, it is generally the defacto method to do so.

    No more 170 pound passengers

If you are really interested in how weight and balance programs are developed for the airlines in the US, read AC 120-27F. Average passenger weights went up in 2005 using a previous iteration of the AC, personal items have a specific weight, carry on bags have another, checked baggage weighs...

    1978 Piper Lance

If the personal philosophy is to save up everything to fix at annual, then they are going to run pretty high. The key is to take care of all mechanical issues as they occur and be on top of looking for things that need to be fixed throughout the entire year, so then the real question and answer...

    Top Overhaul?

Take a look at their start checklist. Throttle full, prime, clear the prop, then set the throttle back to 1/4 inch, engage starter. People probably are missing the step about setting it back to 1/4 inch and starting at full throttle.

How much was your flight training?

Early 70s, 5 dollars an hour for the older C-150, 7 for the newer one. Instructor was 4 per hour. Had the PPL then got married. Total was a little under 1000 dollars. Then bought an Beech Musketeer, I figured I could operate it for 20 dollars per hour during the mid seventies building up...

    Aerodynamics Question

Don't know about an arrow, but in our PA-32, the alt pitot-static is on the left side down at the bottom of the panel in back of the knee bumper pad. Nothing visible, have to feel for it. 1/4 turn petcock type valve.
