    Fixed gear Turbo Toga.

I’ve been shopping for an early Saratoga for the useful load. I came across a fairly well equipped 80 Fixed gear Turbo model. Ironically, I haven’t been looking at either a fixed gear or a turbo, but I like this particular plane. Does anyone have some good real world info on the model? Any info...

Yes, the harness was assembled and installed.

Autopilot issue with G5s and Autocontrol III

I'm not arguing that there isn't a problem with it, however, the A/P worked just fine prior to the install of the G5s. The AI is the same one that was in it then, I'm just wondering if theres a way to test it to know for sure.

Autopilot issue with G5s and Autocontrol III

So, I test flew tonight after checking the pins, and trying to adjust the A/P per the manual. No luck. Still doing the exact same thing. My avionics guy does not have the proper kit to test the A/P so I think I really need to take it to a shop thats capable and have them take a look. Does anyone...

Autopilot issue with G5s and Autocontrol III

No, it’ll flip over if the control knob is in full deflection. It about killed me the first time I engaged it, I wasn’t ready and it was in a 60 degree bank before I caught it, that was when I was on the control knob setting, before I ever switched it to the G5’s. It does not hold attitude now.

Autopilot issue with G5s and Autocontrol III

Ok guys I need a little help. To start with, here’s my setup, I’ll include a panel pic for reference. I have a 1971 Cherokee 6-260 with piper autocontrol III. I bought the plane last July with an older panel in it. At the time, the autopilot worked great and the previous owner had just had it...

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Tried that. The radio coupler is a 1C388, the three that are compatible with that wiring setup are 1C388, doesn't work, 1c388P and 1C388M are exactly the same unit only one was manufactured for Piper and the other for the general market. When set on AutoConrol, it simply rolls to the right.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

I really didn’t catch it following the heading bug on the ground until it was suggested to test it there. I wish I had a video of it in the air, but weather yesterday and today will prevent that from happening.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

I did keep my AI as well, replaced my turn and bank with it. Submarine huh... guess we’ll leave that one at the bottom of the ocean...

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Ok, here’s the latest update of what this thing is doing. My 12yo and I went out to the plane this evening, fired it up, and ran a ground test. Included is the link to the video. I cannot stress enough, while the a/p will sort of follow the heading bug on the ground, in the air, it drastically...

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Where are you located? I’ve learned more from you in 5 posts than my avionics shop knows. PM me if you’d be interested in taking a look at it. I’m suspecting that the radio coupler is defective, but not sure at this point.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Not doubting you, but In the list of A/Ps on the G5, it has several listed including an AutoControl and 1C388. Neither work, but they are there.

Yes, i can fly the plane with the toll knob.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Yes, they moved it to the turn and bank location, but at some points the a/p seems to be getting some kind of input. The plane will try to follow the heading bug for a second and then veer left.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Plane was previously configured with a heading bug and worked fine.

    G5’s and an AutoControl III.

Neither heading bug or GPSS are working, plane just veers to the right. Radio coupler is 1C388, there is nothing after that.
