Which Hydraulic Fluid won't destroy my brakes?

I'm reading that my ship uses MIL-H-5606A hydraulic fluid for the brakes. What brand do you recommend? __ Aeroshell Fluid 4 __ Phillips 66 X/C 5606A __ Cheap unmarked bottles of MIL-H-5606A sold by Aircraft Spruce __ Something else I'm concerned that if I pick the wrong stuff, it will eat up...

Selling my sweet Cherokee 1979 6/300. Less than 2200 TTAF, 650 SMOH.

Awesome! For some reason, ATP's really love the 6. Boulder sees a lot of Alaska pilots and the Six is revered in the "last frontier." I'll look into a club conversion. 2 position fuel lever sounds nice. With my GAMI's and LOP of operation, my bladder can never outlast the mains :-)

Selling my sweet Cherokee 1979 6/300. Less than 2200 TTAF, 650 SMOH.

Did you get your asking price? My '73 6/300 only has 2,100 hours, 150 hours on a fresh motor, and a fully upgraded panel. Curious how the market is looking.

Cherokee POH Has Me Come In Hot

I came up with this placard after running the rule of thumb formulas with a 2 mph fudge factor you recommended. For solo flights, I'm in the 2600 lb row. I can now see why the designers put a single 90MPH approach speed in the old owner's handbook. Probably figured it's better to float and...

Cherokee POH Has Me Come In Hot

Thanks, Mark! I can't find KCAS figure for my 73 Cherokee Six 300. Do you have any pointers? I'll try the "let her land rather than hold off" technique!

Cherokee POH Has Me Come In Hot

This is very useful and what I was looking for! @Orest @ CYFD provided a good rule of thumb for modifying Vref based on reduced gross weight in that thread. This article ( http://www.swaviator.com/html/issueJA05/BasicsJA05.html ) suggests reducing your Vref 0.8 knots for every 100 pounds under...

Cherokee POH Has Me Come In Hot

I read an interesting article in the March 2019 edition of IFR Refresher magazine about “High-Energy Approaches” and the dangers associated with them. The 1973 POH for my 73 Piper Cherokee Six says that my approach speed with full flaps should be 90 MPH. The article stated that light aircraft...

Fixing A Minor Dent In Wing?

Thanks! Something like this? It's the highest rated glue gun kit on Amazon.

Fixing A Minor Dent In Wing?

I went to pull my Cherokee Six out of the hangar and noticed a small dent in the right wing near the tip tank. I have no idea how it got there, but suspect someone helping me push her back may have done it. What's the recommended method to fix such a dent? Is there a suction cup strategy...

    Dual Garmin G5's

Cap, Don’t mince words. Tell us how you really feel about Aspen ;-) I told my first wife “you’ll always be you” and it didn’t go over too well.

    Dual Garmin G5's

If you can start at a similar price point for the Aspen Pro 1000 and upgrade that to AOA and Synth Vision, then that's a nice upgrade path. Ditto on weather and traffic, however I have that on my Avidyne IFD550 and I prefer to leave my AI/HSI screens uncluttered. It's hard enough to read the...

    Dual Garmin G5's

I betcha the Aspen is a fine product. I use a simulated Aspen when I fly approaches in X-plane with PilotEdge.net and like it. As with the Avidyne, I do like having dedicated buttons for some functions, which the Aspen has. Garmin's multi-function knob on my G5's can be a nuisance. I am...

    Dual Garmin G5's

And I just sold all the original King gear from Thanks. Looks like there's no free lunch when it comes to trying to remove the vacuum system while keeping the old AP.
  14. frontrangeflyer01

    Dual Garmin G5's

Does Aspen support legacy Piper autopilots with full vacuum system removal (no legacy AI needed)? If so, that does seem an attractive alternative to dual G5's. That said, with G5's installed, it looks like I'll be able to take my pick of TruTrak or Garmin autopilots without limitation when the...

Lean of Peak (LOP) - get there quickly

Very cool I just flew with a 20,000 hour pilot friend over the "rocks" here near Boulder heading over to Paonia, CO. I freaked him out when I made my "big pull" to lean while we were crossing a few 14ers with the only option to put down being a snowy ridge-line. We had a good conversation...

Lean of Peak (LOP) - get there quickly

I totally get it. If I'm flying IFR single pilot, I don't like fiddling with the JPI more than I have to so I can stay in front of the airplane. Even after hitting cruise altitude, I've had curve balls thrown at me while I'm in the middle of playing with the LOP setting.

    IFR Checkride Tomorrow, too windy?

I took my IFR checkride in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where high winds are just another day at the office. I was very lucky that the 1) the gust factor was a lot lower than what you’re describing, and 2) my gps nav/com calculated my wind correction angle for me and painted it on my glass HSI so at...

TruTrak vs. GFC 500 (when G5's are a given)

Sorry, I said that flippantly and came off sounding like an ass. I'm sure they're pushing to make as much as possible at install. I pay for data on my Garmin watch, so I figure lifetime value of customer (via subscriptions) is in their calculus. Haven't tried Garmin Pilot yet, but a friend...

    Dual Garmin G5's

Good Fast Cheap You can pick two :-) All kidding aside, I agree that $4,500 for the auto pilot support is very rich. I did maybe 20 seconds of searching on Google to find that option. There may be other cheaper electric AI's that support older autopilots. If you add the $1,500 for a regular...

    Dual Garmin G5's

A backup electric AI is a superior alternative to a turn coordinator (and allowed for IFR), so ditching the old vacuum pump/turn coordinator/AI combo and replacing with an electric AI with autopilot support seems the most elegant option for those who want G5's, no vacuum system, and to use their...
