Wait a minute!

I thought a rotating beacon was the physically largest anti collision light that could be found up on top of the fin?

But look at my strobe. It's even bigger than a rotating beacon! My strobe is not as fat as a rotating beacon, but it's 2.5x taller.

Heck, I always thought a strobe was an improvement over a beacon, in terms of physical size. But it's not.

Talk about drag!

That looks to be a huge, er petite, improvement! Good one. What is the price?

It was $820 for the light and $141 for the fairing from knots-2-U.

Those new fin top fairings come pre drilled for the screw holes that attach it to the plane?

No, It had no holes. What I did is make an alignment tool with scrap sheet metal. I cut several strips about 1/2"W X 10"L. Then I bent each one over aligning the ends together, crimping the bent so the metal lies flat with each other. On the other end of the bend I drilled a hole through both pieces so the screw would go through, but not the head. Made 8 of them. I took the old faring off and screwed one side of the strip from the inside to the plane. Then I opened up the tool and slide the new faring between the flats pieces of the tool and aligned where the old faring was positioned. Then pushed the exposed part of the tool to the new faring and marked the position of each hole.

Sorry, the explanation my not be very good. The next time I go out to the plane I will take a picture. Anyway, it is easier then it sounds.

I have the Aveo nav/ strobes, tail strobe and rock rack switches and love them all. Very bright and easy to spot. I guess I will now need to replace my beacon with the Red Baron.

Thanks bgmac. I'm not in need of any fairings just yet. But want to replace them all before the new paint goes on. That is a ways off, but I like to be thinking ahead...

And wow your Cherokee is sharp! Love the red.

I keep going back and forth whether I want to keep yellow/black/white or go with red/black/white.
