Default Final list of tower closures announced...

http://www.faa.gov/news/press_releas...m?newsId=14414

My home base is on it, TKI.

Some of these don't make a lot of sense in the DFW area. RBD has near twice the traffic as GPM but GPM stays open?

It is a scheme to replace the present tower personnel with federal employees.

Sure makes me glad that in Canada we have that whole system privatized.

Most of the closed towers will be no problem. But, Danbury, CT, may be an exception. I have not been there lately, but before they got the tower it was nearly impossible to land there on a nice Saturday or Sunday. The pattern was a continuous circle of planes doing T&G, with no spaces to cut in. One had to just barge in and cut someone off.

Of course that was before general aviation hit the skids. Maybe it's deserted now.

According to airnav.com they average 228 operations a day. They are closing KSAC in my area, and that is a 252 operations per day. It gets pretty darn busy on the weekends, and has 3 intersecting runways. I could definitely see somebody doing something stupid there that causes an accident.

I haven't been keeping up as well as I should have. By "closing" do they mean turning a controlled field into an uncontrolled field at all times, or do they mean reducing the number of hours of control tower operations? (For example, instead of ending operations at 10 pm - they end operations at 8 pm?)
Actually, the whole thing stinks because these "cuts" are still only cuts to increases in spending. The FAA has operated purely on a "continuing resolution" for at least the last 15 years, so there is no reason why congress has to "cut" anything from them. Just don't give them as much of an increase.

Well my home town San Diego Brown Field is also closing. I wonder if the F18(s) that fly in and out are going to continue flying.

The "budget cuts" are not cuts in spending, just a reduction in the increase that the FAA wanted. Spending next year will be more than this years. These tower closures are just more of this administration's class warfare tactics. Notice that all of the closures only effect GA only airports. This is like the local governments threatening "Libraries, Police and Fire" to scare the public into more tax increases. I did not see any reduction in excess bureaucrats or any attempt to stop over $110B in Medicare, Medicaid or Welfare fraud. Those people would never vote against Santa Clause, would they?

It's all a Democrat game. The first accident that occurs (not that one necessarily will but they don't know that) will be blamed on the Republicans.

You know "never let a good crisis go to waste" ~ Rahm Emanuel, Obama Butt Buddy.

Mark my words.

Sure, take away the things tax paying predominantly conservative citizens use...

But by all means make sure the EBT cards still work for the high percentage of folks that abuse that... and give healthcare to illegal aliens ( I meant undocumented future Democrats)... send the Muslim Brotherhood billions... I could go on...

WTF?
