Default King 206 VOR

I am going to start again my IFR training and told my mechanic that I wanted to adjust the VOR's. They were both off when verified at the VOT from my airport. They are both King but my mechanic could only adjust the one on the right side of the picture (Nav2 driven by a King 170B not visible on the picture) He used an electronic signal device with a small antenna placed outside the plane and tuned in to a specified frequency. The VOR on the left under the S-TEC 30 could not be adjusted. It is a King 206 I (we took a picture of the label behind it) and according to the manual does not need adjustment. It is driven by the KNS 80. Can it be adjusted or is the KNS giving a bad signal? I know the panel is nothing to be jealous of but is funtional to me and legal for IFR training.

King service bulletin KNS80-7 applicable to serials 5650 and below corrects excess VOR converter alignment drift. If yours is a low serial this may be needed if the VOR alignment can't be brought into spec.

there is a static alignment and an OBS resolver alignment procedure in the maintenance manual for the KI-206. After those are done, the KNS80 and KI-206 are paired and aligned.

Looking at the diagrams looks like the adjustment screw is not lined up with the mounting srews but behind a faceplate. I may be wrong but would have the mechanic take the vor out and see. If not I'll be out already to send it to an avionics shop for calibration.

Some of the King Indicators can be adjusted by removing the front knob and adjusting with a long screwdriver through the knob shaft. If it is more than a few degrees off, you need an avionics shop.

The manual specifically said adjustment is on the left upper side but the mechanic could not find it after probing for a while.

Our Arrow recently (this week) developed this same problem... KI 206 is off by 30+ degrees... we're going to remove and send it out for repair / replacement.

It may be my best choice. I just hate to go through the hassle of removing it instead of flying to an avionics shop and have it maybe done in a day.

The KI-206 does not have an adjustment. Remove the indicator and the KNS and have them aligned on a bench.
