Default NSD-360 HSI Overhauls

I am in need of an instrument shop that will overhaul my NSD 360 heading indicator. I am based in SW Iowa and would like something close but not opposed to shipping it across the country. I currently have quotes from Porter-Strait (Tulsa), Mid Content, Auto Pilot Central, Butler (KS), Georgetown avionics in Texas and AQI in Wichita. they are all around the $2,000 range.

Anyone know of another one that is some what cheaper?

Wouldn't a certified G5 replacement make better sense than a $2000 overhaul?

Certified G5 AI was installed cost was about $2400 for me. I believe HSI is but more expensive and few extra hours to install. Can give you path to no vacuum option in future if you want to replace AI as well with a G5.

Or Aspen VFR could be your option also but that's over 3000 in labor itself.

It also depends on your setup and if your HSI is feeding the autopilot then the equation changes.

yes my HSI is feeding my auto pilot. I will have to ask my local shop who installed my Garmin 650 last year.

The G5 (AI or HSI) will not feed the AP... therefore I am praying that my NSD-360 holds up until the G5 will. If my NSD-360 died today I'd have to think hard about the Aspen despite preferring the dual G5 setup. I hate to think about the cost of an Aspen but no way would I pay $2,000 to OH that NSD-360.

An alternative that I've thought of is buying a used NSD-360. They can be had for $1,000 or less with so many of them being pulled for replacement. Somewhat of a gamble but cheaper to maybe bridge the gap between the NSD and whatever newer tech / developments pop up in the next few months / years.
