They are BEAUTIFUL. Just replace the bulbs the same as any other bulb, but keep the old ones around less you find some cranky A&P who will say your plane is not airworthy. Many up here are using them. Like I sadi also the clear lenses really let them shine.

Guess I should have read flyguydon's reply before I repeated what he said

Once when I was taxiing out for an 11pm departure the tower informed me that the white tail light was out. He didn't make an issue of it and I flew away happy. But, it would be a good idea to carry spares in case you meet up with the anal character mentioned by flyguydon.

So I need the red and green light, plus two clear lenses. The ones from the previous post, correct? Then they will just plug right into my existing sockets, no mods required? Can I also get a clear LED for the tail? From the same manufactor?

Yes. But if you "hide" the LEDs behind the red and green original lenses... and use the clear LED... it is very unlikely anyone will ever know but you.

In fact that may even be stealth enough that the wings might not even realize that they were supposed to fall off.

I didn't bother with the white tail nav light (I do have one) as I have a 1/2 red and 1/2 white anti collision strobe, which is accepted as a white nav light.

Besides the other benefits noted, one big one not mentioned is safety. Generally the lifetime of an LED is 50,000+ hours, by which time your wings would assuredly have fallen off.

Here are a couple vendors with better prices/selection if you go the non PMA route. Now on the one's Aircraft Spruce has if anyone knows are they side firing? That might justify the increased cost as I haven't been able to find a side firing green LED.

I'm looking to stream line my plane (Aztec). I have a big soupcan strobe on top of the tail, and then a white position light on the rear of the tail. I looked at Aveo selection on Aircraft spruce but it wasn't clear which one I might need. Getting rid of the soupcan would be helpful, either with something very streamline or altogether.

Unless something's changed, almost the entire AVEO line of lighting is for experimentals only. Unless you are an OEM, you can't put non-TSO'd or PMA'd or STC'd lighting on a certified airplane. An OEM can buy off these lights under their own QC program. For the rest of us, there is no easy way to do it except by field approval.

Only the Aveoflash LSA wingtip lights are offered for certified planes via 337 approval, and even that doesn't claim they hold an STC. If it's field approved 337 only, that's a big drawback.

I looked at AVEO'S website, and it is misleading. No where does it say they have an FAA authorizations for all the products listed under the GA lighting. They imply it by using pictures of GA airplanes.

It's too bad because they have some pretty cool stuff.

Default LED wingtip lights

I got a set from Aircraft Spruce and put them on my '62 PA28-160 a year ago and they are excellent. Bright and easy to see. I check lights before I pull out of my hanger and they are much brighter than the standard bulbs. My AI noticed them at annual and just said "Good idea".
